Dr. Cail explains with a very straightforward way the best way to relate and talk to someone with Alzheimer's. After my diagnosis, many of my friends didn't know what to say to me. They didn't want to believe it in the first place because I was in my 40's when I was diagnosed. After they got over the shock, they became distant because they just didn't know what to say. If I had this book then, I would have given each one a copy and ask them to read it. It's very important to those with Alzheimer's to stay connected as long as they can so having friends and family pull away because they are unsure of what to say is hard. Those with Alzheimer's already feel an alienation of sorts and having interaction with others is extremely important. Dr. Cail is very sensitive to the needs of an Alzheimer's patient and gives very practical advice and in layman's terms. You owe it to yourself to get this book to help understand both sides of Alzheimer's disease -- from the patient's view to the "outside world's" view. As I read this book my thoughts were -- "finally someone gets it" and can help to make it easier on everyone. She answers a lot of unasked questions I know people have.
